Photographs evoke feelings. By using the photos of the contest, SIETAR Italia wants to analyze new and old forms of connections, new and old images of self, new and old senses of “being Italian.”.

The research outcomes will be practical educational application tools and recommendations.

Photographs tap the analogic connection between visual representation and feeling, where the photo does not so much represent as evoke the feeling. By using the photos, the research wants to understand new and old forms of connections, new and old images of self, new and old senses of “being Italian.” With it, the experimental learning during the photo exhibition, as well as the material of all the 600 submitted photos will be considered. Initially, interpretations from the photographers will be assembled. Subsequently, the reactions from viewers during the exhibition will be collected to reveal the ways in which meanings of identity are constructed in the intersection of image and viewer. The data collected will help to understanding more deeply the construction of Italian and global identity narratives, as well as the link to the concept of citizenship. The final expected outcomes of the research are practical educational application tools and a publishable report with recommendations.
